The passing of Charles Bradley made me reflect on how much I gotta cherish my favourite contemporary soul singers who are still alive and working, so my side this month is all recent-ish slow jams from people you can still look forward to seeing live if you lucky.
Plenty of the usual old gold on Side Shio Otani and Side Pierre Baroni too of course...
I accidentally deleted the links for the early mixes, but they are back up now. Download to your hearts content!
To celebrate 50 slow grind parties, we have employed the services of a vintage 1960 room-sized IBM super-computer (the RAM is a giant glass tube filled with mercury that electrons are shot through) to calculate each of our top 5 most played slow grind records. You can look forward to hearing these classics and plenty more freshly dug up sounds at SLOW GRIND FEVER #50 - BYO BACCHANAL AT RUSSIAN HOUSE, be sure to get a ticket before it sells out!
Here on SGF mix #49 we got some mumbly jazzy elvis, some moody blues (not THE Moody Blues), some freaky Mingus noir (you'll be doing some dramatic interprative jazz ballet to that one), some swingin' popcorn, and to start us off, a burning un-issued jungle number from legendary percussionist CHAINO. We hope it gets you where you need to go and we'll see you (or possibly just feel your sexy vibrations through the smoke) on saturday night x
Mmmm, some sweet jams on here, slow grinders. That record "I'm a Cool Teenager" is in fact a lot cooler than the dumb title would suggest. And before you go grumbling, I KNOW the Lenny Troy record is a little too fast and jaunty for a slow grind, but that's as far as i could slow it down on the turntable and I just LURVE it. That sax solo, oh lord. Anyway, send this sexy mix to all your crushes and see if they magically turn up in the smoke on sat night... xxx
Alrighty, these new Slow Grind Fever Vol #7 LPs compiled by me and Pierre are out in the world! You can buy direct from me by sending $25 via paypal (send as friends / family) to firstname.lastname@example.org and then pick up from Jeannie at LAGOON VINTAGE (204 Smith St, Collingwood), or if you don't mind paying the retail markup and wanna support your local record spots i've also dropped some in at Northside Records, The Searchers and Plug 7 Records. Out of towners can email me to arrange postage. Get it on your turntable and burn some incensce or light a smoke and close your eyes and slow dance with your lover or your housemate or your cat or a ghost or yourself xxx
